A Breezy Session at Robert Moses: A Sweet Family Beach Session

There’s something magical about Robert Moses State Park at sunset. The gentle sound of waves, soft golden light, and endless stretches of sand make it one of my favorite locations for a relaxed family session. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the Golbin family as they soaked in a breezy evening along the shoreline—just the three of them and their adventurous daughter, who was more interested in splashing than posing (and honestly, that’s what made the session so fun).

4 Tips for a Successful Beach Session with a Young Child

1. Dress for movement (and mess):
Light fabrics, neutral tones, and bare feet are perfect for the beach. I help all my clients choose outfits through my curated Amazon storefront, which I share with once your session is booked—so styling feels simple and stress-free. Also, bring a backup outfit in case your little one gets sandy or soaked!

2. Pack smart:
Snacks, wipes, a favorite toy, and water can go a long way in keeping a toddler happy during a session. A towel is always a good idea too!

3. Keep expectations low and spirits high:
Kids have their own timeline, especially around bedtime. The more we let go of the idea of “perfect,” the more genuine and joy-filled your gallery will be.

4. Time it right:
Golden hour—about an hour before sunset—is the ideal time for dreamy light and happier moods. We’ll keep the session short, sweet, and full of movement to match your child’s natural rhythm.

Why Robert Moses Works So Well for Families

With its wide open dunes, gentle waves, and fewer crowds during golden hour, Robert Moses offers a gorgeous yet peaceful setting. There’s plenty of room to roam, which works beautifully for toddlers who aren’t built for sitting still. Add a pastel sky and soft wind in your hair, and you’ve got a setting that feels both cinematic and easygoing.
