Sara & Jesse’s Surprise Engagement Party at The Rose Room

Some nights feel like they’re pulled straight from a movie—and Sara and Jesse’s engagement celebration was one of them.

After what she thought was just a lovely dinner at the Garden City Hotel with their families, Sara had no idea that the real party was still ahead. The surprise came next—a secret celebration tucked behind closed doors at one of the hotel’s most unique spots: The Rose Room, a hidden speakeasy venue right here in Garden City, Long Island.

To get there, guests checked in at the lobby, where a call was made for “Wolf Cart 1.” This vintage-inspired transport swept them off to an unmarked entrance. From there, it was up a staircase and through a long, twisting corridor that finally revealed the moody charm of The Rose Room.

Inside, the vibe was pure 1920s glamour. Dim lighting, velvet couches, cozy corners, and an open bar set the tone for a fun, intimate evening. And when Sara walked in—completely surprised—she was greeted with cheers, champagne, and the smiling faces of family and friends.

The room buzzed with laughter and warm conversation. Friends mingled, shared memories, and as the night went on, the dancing began. The energy shifted from sweet and sentimental to lively and full of celebration—exactly how an engagement party on Long Island should feel.

As a Long Island event photographer, I love documenting these kinds of pre-wedding celebrations—the emotion, the surprise, the joy in every little moment. Engagement parties and bridal showers are some of my favorite events to photograph, and I’m always honored to be part of the story.
